There was never really any question whether Galen Rupp would go to the BCS championship game between Oregon and Auburn.
Within minutes of Oregon’s victory in the Civil War Game over rival Oregon State, Rupp knew without a doubt that he would follow his beloved Ducks to Glendale, Ariz. for the Jan. 10 game.
Rupp, who helped Oregon win three national championships during his time in Eugene, pays close attention to Oregon football and is a huge fan of the team. He attended last season’s Rose Bowl with a couple of his buddies.
The BCS title game tickets are not easy to come by. But Rupp and his coach, Alberto Salazar, are hard-wired “in” thanks to their university connections and close relationship with Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
Rupp, Salazar and Dathan Ritzenhein will be in Edinburgh, Scotland for a cross country meet on Jan. 8. The next morning, Rupp and Salazar will spend the day traveling together, starting with a flight across the Atlantic and a five-hour lay-over in Newark. Rupp will likely make the time to run at the airport so he can get a workout in before moving on to Phoenix.
How are their seats, you ask?
Not bad.
They’ll be in the 11th row near the 50-yard line.
Face value on the tickets is $375 but they may be worth as much as 10 times that much. Rupp told me Tuesday he’s not selling his.
