Michael Berry of Rainier Beach High School in Seattle will give Oregon’s relays an instant boost when he joins the program in the fall.

Berry is one of six men announced Monday as additions to the 2010 recruiting class. All of them hail from the Northwest.

Berry ran a 46.13 seconds for the 400 meters at the recent U.S. Junior Olympic national championships — good for No. 2 among preps in 2010. Berry anchored the U.S. to victory in the 4×400 relay at the World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada in July.

Kelley Beck of Crater High (Central Point, Ore), with 48.83/22.46 speed, is also on the list. A third sprinter, Bryan Harper of Junction City, comes to Oregon via Lane Community College where he has run 47.46/21.93.

Matthew Lloyd of Camas, Wash., a versatile thrower (55-8 shot, 166-9 discus, 199-5 hammer) also joins the program, as does javelin thrower Josh Heidegger, a transfer from Northwest Nazarene. Heidegger, who prepped at Medford’s Cascade Christian, has thrown 223-2. Finally, decathlete Kevin Godfrey of Lane Community College (and Douglas High School in Winston, Ore.) has a career-best score of 6,544 points.

They join a recruiting class that also includes previous signees Sam Crouser — the 2010 Gatorade National Track and Field Athlete of the Year — Jacob Budwig, Dakotah Keys, Parker Stinson, Cole Watson, Colby Alexander and Brian Schrader.
