Bernard Lagat won the gold medal in the 3,000 meters in Doha, Qatar — pulling away from the field to win in 7 minutes, 37.97 seconds.
Galen Rupp, after narrowly making it to the final, made the most of his opportunity. Rupp produced what is probably his top achievement internationally — placing fifth in a personal best 7:42.40. Rupp finished two seconds back of one of the event favorites, fourth-place Tariku Bekele.
